One of the main questions is regarding the health problems that can cause a heart attack in people. And another point that is not much discussed is what are the reasons that lead young people and athletes, who have healthy habits and lifestyle, to have a heart attack .
“A heart attack occurs when there is an increased need for oxygen, as it means the death of several cardiac muscles. The oxygenation that the body needs only occurs due to the set of blood vessels, the so-called coronary arteries”, explained Nicolle Queiroz, cardiologist, specialist in cardiosport.
“Women have the protection factor when they are still menstruating due to hormones. But structurally the woman’s heart and coronary arteries are smaller. Currently, the lifestyle of women and men is very similar, as they work double shifts, at work and at home, and this increases the risk,” he continued.
“There are several reasons that can cause a heart attack, such as an unregulated diet, rich in fats, carbohydrates, weight gain, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, alcohol abuse, drug use and other factors that collaborate are: high cholesterol, uncontrolled diabetes and obesity ”, highlighted Nicole.
In addition, Nicole also said that according to recent studies, the percentage of young athletes who are victims of sudden death is quite staggering. There are 92% men and 53% women who had some structural change in their heart.
“Cases of myocardial fibrosis, atherosclerotic plaques and a higher incidence of atrial fibrillation have been reported, in the latter case, the heartbeat starts to accelerate until it starts beating in an irregular rhythm,” she said.
An important point to be highlighted is that only physical activity, without a proper diet and abandoning alcohol, does not guarantee a heart attack prevention. Of course it will help, even because physical activity is considered a protective force, but it won’t prevent it.
